Rooftop Prince Final Review

The final episode, like I expected, consisted of filling in the gaps for the Joseon dynasty. Here's what happened: You know how they said the Crown Princess had died of poisoned persimmons? Well, that isn't what really went down.

Yi Gak's half-brother (which happens to be Tae Moo) was plotting to overtake Yi Gak, aided by the Crown Princess' family. *GASP* shocker. I honestly didn't see that coming, but it made sense. Over something about revenge and pettiness, the Crown Princess's father thought that Yi Gak would want revenge over something that happened years ago, so the dad wanted to take him out and let 'Tae Moo' become the prince. So, the father sent the Crown Princess a letter saying, 'The time is now! Poison the Crown Prince with dried persimmons to kill him!' So, she agreed to it of course. The persimmons themselves weren't poisonous, Bu Yong had to bring in a powder to sprinkle on the persimmons. Bu Yong did not know what the powder was, but she knew there was something fishy going on.
Finding the letter about the attempted murder, Bu Yong rushes to try to stop her sister from killing Yi Gak. Remember in the first episode where Yi Gak made her answer a riddle? Well she answered the riddle (Lotus flower, meaning Bu Yong, foreshadowing her future death). As a reward, she wanted the persimmons. WHAT. She offered to eat them. And she did. She ate all of the poisoned persimmons while her sister and Yi Gak watched. That was literally one of the saddest scenes I've ever seen in a Korean drama lol. Anyways, after she ate the persimmons, she got up and left, extremely weak. She goes to Bu Yong Lake(lake where the Crown Princess was found dead) and waits for her sister to show up. They meet up and of course the Crown Princess is pissed. As usual. But since Se Na had a transformation, I was hoping that maybe the Crown Princess would. NOT.
Bu Yong offers to take her place since she's gonna die anyway. See, people were going to find out that their family had poisoned the Crown Prince and they would live with humiliation and punishment. Therefore, Bu Yong decided to take the flack and eat the persimmons, saving her family, and saving her love. AWWWWWWWWWWWWW, dang. Man. Sacrifice. During that scene I cried y'all. I cried. Anyways, Bu Yong and the Crown Princess trade clothes so that she would be found dead in the lake as the Crown Princess, while 'Bu Yong' lives. Damn. So, everything goes according to plan. Bu Yong dies and falls into the lake, looking like the Crown Princess. While, the actual Crown Princess hides with her parents, pretending to be extremely ill. The next day, Yi Gak finds his beloved Crown Princess dead.
Fast forward to the now. Yi Gak and crew return to Joseon and they figure everything out. 'Tae Moo' and the Crown Princess/Bu Yong's father are beheaded, while the real Crown Princess and her mother are exiled. Justice is served. But Bu Yong is dead.

In the modern era, Tae Yong actually returns to normal, as expected, and meets Park Ha. The end.

In Conclusion: Overall, this drama was all over the place. We spent the first half mainly trying to get Se Na and Yi Gak together. But then he fell in love with Park Ha. Then Tae Moo wants the inheritance and brings Tae Yong back to Korea. Then Park Ha and Se Na are actually related. Then Se Na kills Grandmother. Then Tae Moo and Se Na try to kill everyone off. LIKE WTF!! All of the extra stuff was unnecessary. But, I don't really know why I stuck around. I just wanted to see how they would wrap this up. But still, alot of things didn't make sense. Likeeeeeee, how is it that Yi Gak didn't tell the difference between Bu Yong and her sister. Like, are we supposed to suspend disbelief?? I'm sure, that if I found my husband dead in a lake, I would cry of course, but also look at his dead face to see if he's really dead or not. Then, once I realized that it was his hot brother instead of my actual husband, I would be like HOL' UP, this isn't my man. That's what should've happened. I can understand that perhaps, the people of the palace, immediately took Bu Yong away or someone was paid to keep Yi Gak out of the loop. But still, I would def tell the difference between my sister in law and my wife. Seriously. Other than that, satisfying ending. I hate that Yi Gak and Park Ha don't end up together. The ending showed reality, and a fantasy. Since Yi Gak is 300 years old, Park Ha would have no memory of him, so when she met Tae Yong, she would be meeting him face to face for the first time. Man.

This was a good drama I guess. Would I recommend it to someone....maybe. Depends. It isn't a must see, but if you're looking for a good laugh and cuteness, here you go.

  2. How did Yi Gak find the truth? Okay, honestly, I skipped ep.17 and 18, fast forwarded to ep. 19 and now am watching ep 20. Maybe I just dont focus enough to understand what's been going on but I dont get when and how Yi Gak found the truth about all this. Thanks a lot in advance :) I enjoy reading your review :)
