The Chaser Movie Review

I don't know what possessed me to watch another sick and twisted Korean movie...but I did. This is like the 3rd one this year, I don't know I've lost count. I'm beginning to think I'm mentally insane but maybe I just appreciate Asian cinema wayyyyyy more than crap that comes out in America now a days and you give them Oscars. Anyways, I'm here to review this South Korean thriller that came out in 2008 starring Kim Yoon-seok and Ha Jung-Woo.
Plot: An ex-detective has now become a pimp and some of his girls have all of a sudden disappeared. He gets the lead on the serial killer but doesn't believe the guy actually killed them, he just thinks he sold the girls. Wrong, the serial killer has killed 9 of them. So the movie is about trying to save his last girl, Mi Jin.
Acting: Brilliant, I have no reason to watch movies that don't have great actors

This movie is loosely based off the real serial killer Yoo Young-chul. In the movie, he kills the escort girls with the hammer which is similar to Young-chul's killing sprees. Young-chul received the death penalty in 2004.

This is a very dark and BRUTAL movie, so if you can't stand blood or watching people's heads get smashed in, this isn't for you. But if you can stomach it, I guess I would recommend this movie. This movie isn't PERFECT mainly because of the plot. What makes this movie is the ACTORS. In the plot, we're just chasing after a serial killer who should've been caught along time ago. Also, how come NO ONE in Korea carries guns. That would save alot of time. Anyways, the actors were great, the last 15 minutes of the movie were unexpected. It's not a happy ending, but if you're into a good thriller, this is a great movie. Now it's not as good as 'I Saw the Devil' in terms of thrillers involving serial killers, but it's great!

The moral of all these Korean and Japanese serial killer thriller movies I've seen is to know self-defense, never go anywhere with no service, no prostitution, treat everyone nicely so that when we grow up they won't hypnotize you into having sex with your daughter, and don't kill your teacher's daughter. Yea. That just about sums it up. I think we're good. No but seriously, I think this is a good movie watch it!!
