School 2013 Final Episode Review

We pretty much solve everyone's problems except for poor Jung Ho who ends up dropping out of school. So we thought. Everyone moves on to a different class together as 1...

Se Chan grows a lot in this drama because he is able to open up to the students and care for their well-being. It's understandable now that the reason why he was so aloof with the students is because he didn't want to become so attached. I'm glad they brought up the story line of suicide, we were able to get a glimpse into the darker side of his past and how he blames himself for the death of his student. Very emotional episode. In this last episode he cared for Jung ho and I honestly thought that perhaps HE would adopt Jung Ho, I totally thought that would happen...I know it seems weird, but it would help and I don't think Jung Ho would honestly do well in a shelter, and no one would really want someone like him...so...But yea...maybe next season??
Final Thoughts on Se Chan: I think Daniel Choi is the perfect teacher hahaha, he looks so old with those glasses even though he's realllllllllllllllllllllly young lol. I still wish his acting provided more layers for the character, for it wasn't until the last few episodes we really got to see who he was and how tormented he is. I like that they gave him more of a deeper story line compared to In Jae....But I liked his casting, Daniel Choi did what he was supposed to do and I know he's capable of better acting...I'm glad he decided to stay a teacher instead of giving up, he grew alot!!

I like that In Jae held on to the kids in the very end, she truly cares about her students. She paid for Jung ho's hospital bills and she too felt really bad about somewhat being the cause to his beatings even though it wasn't her fault. I thought that was extremely stupid on her part. Knowing that Jung Ho's father is extremely abusive, she didn't think it was true because Jung Ho would show up to school looking fine...I was like WTF??!!! But you know, that just shows how society is when it comes to child abuse. Not too many people believe it because the child is hiding it but that doesn't mean they aren't being abused. You need to look more carefully at people and notice their cry for help!!
Final Thoughts on In Jae: I too think Jang Nara was cast perfectly for this character. She showed plenty of emotion and I truly felt how conflicted she was about her students, however she too didn't give me any layers. Herself didn't change but she instead changed everyone around her. She got the school to care for the students and fight for the students, not just give up on them everytime something goes wrong. I liked teachers like that, she genuinely cared about them, instead of just focusing on passing them. And it worked to some extent. She changed the bullies!!!

Nam Soon is obviously the person that changed the most given his past. He took on the role as older brother and someone you can count on for EVERYONE in the class. I liked that he was able to care of Jung Ho and provide a home for him. I'm glad that he patched his relationship up with Heung-soo. CAN WE JUST GET A SHOW FOR THEM THE CUTENESS OVERLOAD IN THIS EPISODE WAS UNBEARABLE.
Final Thoughts on Nam Soon: Lee Jong-suk has played a VARIETY of characters. He's normally very goofy and what not, so his acting skills surprised me so much in this drama. Great emotion, you can see how hurt he was about his relationship with Heung-soo, just GAH. But he's changed the most. From being in a gang, to swallowing in self-pity, to returning to school, become class president, taking responsibility for everyone, and just showing what true friendship is all about. Great actor, great character. I honestly wish there was more for his story apart from the issues with Heung-soo. I wanted to go deeper with him and delve into his lonliness because he has no parents to take care of him. I wanted more of that, I think the writers got too caught up in the bromance...but I still love him!! Other than that, Jong-suk was great!!! No complaints on his part, showed great layers and everything.

I really liked Park Heung-soo, because he didn't just immediately forgive Nam Soon. He didn't dwell on the WHY but rather on if Nam Soo truly valued their friendship the way he did. He's back to being BFF's with Nam Soon without the awkwardness and it's just too cute to see that Heung-soo depends on Nam Soon the most in their friendship. CAN THEY PLEASE GET THEIR OWN SHOW!!
Final Thoughts on Heung-soo: He realllllly cared about Nam Soon. Seriously. He didn't hate Nam Soon for what he did, but rather he hated him for not coming back and jut being there for him when he was in the hospital. Clearly shows his love for the boy. He just needed someone to fill that hole in his heart when Nam Soon left, and so for numerous episodes they tip-toed around it but we finally got to see the reason why Heung-soo had so much hurt. And the fact that he was on probation because he was fighting people hoping to find someone to put his heart back together just KILLED ME. I mean that is just LOVEEEEEEEEE. Bromances are just the cutest thing in the world.
Kim Woo-bin played his part perfectly. He too gave us the emotion and it helps that Jong-suk and Woo bin are friends in reality because the cuteness just doesn't stop. Can they be BFFS FOREVER AND POST PICS TOGETHER JUST GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!.
Kim Woo-bin plays the same kind of guy in EVERY drama. He's always the bad guy with good intentions, but in this drama, he gave us raw EMOTION with it. He put something new in it, a different spin on the tale. GREAT ACTOR, it would be nice to see him do something different though...but he is the perfect bad boy even though in reality he's the cutest thing on this planet next to Joo Won LOL.

I'm glad that they really decided to focus this last episode on Jung Ho...because even though he didn't drastically change, but it shows that he's not that bad of guy. He's just the product of his environment. I hate that he had to drop out of school, I wished him the best. And at the end he got teary-eyed because of his future. When he said Don't worry I will live correctly that broke my heart and I started CRYING. We finally got to see RAW EMOTION from Jung Ho and it sent me over the edge lol. The last convo with Se Chan, it really looked like he wanted to go with him but...Se Chan had to let him go...But we still aren't sure whether or not he seriously dropped out of school...that's left for our imagination...
Final Thoughts on Oh Jung ho: I'm glad that the writers didn't want to have Jung ho change completely and immediately, because it's hard to do that in reality. He is the product of his environment: poor, parentless, abused by his father...of course he in return would bully others! It's good that his friends were able to change, thanks to Nam Soon and Heung-soo. Jung ho and crew aren't bad people, they just didn't have anything to do. Jung ho is right, no one would want to hire him because he looks like a thug, he's not smart, so what else is there. But he definitely tried. And he was able to help pay the money back for Nam Soon...that was really good for him.
Jang Wook is the best actor out of everyone in this cast. He plays the most VERSATILE roles EVER. Woo Bin and Jang Wook were in 'White Christmas' together...then I saw Jang Wook in 'Shut Up Flower Boy Band' and he played the rude nerd...and now he's a bully??? He's sooooooooooooo good and what he does and he's able to get into character so perfectly. Once I made those connections I was like WOW.
Great actor, he did change in the end which is good, but it would be good to know that Jung Ho does get his life together and go back to school.

This drama...was well written. It had a rawness to it that made me FEEL in every episode. I cried, I laughed, I was hurt, I felt special and loved...I guess we all can relate so much to this drama because we all went through or are still in high school. 80% of the issues that happened in this show, happened in my actual school. A lot of subjects hit close to home especially the suicide so I'm glad this show portrayed the reality of high school and that EVERYONE has a different story.
This is the first Korean drama I have seen that had the most PERFECT cast ever. EVERYONE fit together, you could tell they were close in reality.
There are flaws however, I think that the show was meant to be made longer in terms of episodes. 16 episodes just isn't enough to really get to know every major character and delve into their issues. I think the writers spent too much time on patching up the Bromance than other things, but that's just because the WORLD demands this bromance. This is the 2nd best bromance drama I have ever seen!!
Also, the storyline definitely got repetitive, and in the last episode it just seemed rushed.
So hopefully...there will be a 2ND SEASON!!!! The way the last episode ended...hopefully there is..

I would HIGHLY recommend this drama to any and everyone. It had comedy, drama, bromance instead of romance...suspense at times. Great drama, I can't wait to buy the DVD!!!

*tears*

  1. You're right on the money with this review. I agree that Jang Wook did the best acting job. I ended up empathizing with Jung Ho the most in the end. Wish it was 20 episodes....

    1. Yea, I really think they needed to do the extension instead of keeping it at the original 16, I guess they thought that by ending it this way, perhaps there will be another season...hopefully!!
